2021. The first large-scale exhibition in Japan by pop culture master KAWS was held in Tokyo and was visited by many people. In this article, I would like to share the excitement of the exhibition and the charm of KAWS through the photos based on the order of the exhibition.

2021年。ポップカルチャーの巨匠KAWSによる国内初となる大型展覧会が東京で開催され、多くの方々が訪れました。本記事では展示の流れを踏まえた展示写真を通じて、大盛況だった会場の興奮、KAWSの魅力を少しでもお伝えできればと思います。

Who is KAWS？ / KAWSとは？

Brian Donnelly, known as KAWS, is a contemporary artist born in the United States in 1974. Not to mention art fans, there may be people who have seen characters with XX eyes around the city.
KAWS continues to expand its field of activity, starting with artworks to add characters with XX eyes to public advertisements in New York City.
Even in Japan, KAWS has a deep connection with the Japanese culture scene, such as collaborating with the popular fashion brand A Bathing Ape and designing the CD jacket of musician Tei Towa.
Of course, KAWS popularity is high globally, and he is now one of the representatives of contemporary art.

KAWSことブライアン・ドネリーさんは、1974年アメリカ生まれの現代アーティスト。
アートファンはもちろん、目がXX印のキャラクターを街中で見かけたことがある方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。
KAWSは、ニューヨーク市街の広告にXX印の目のキャラクターを描き加える活動を起点として、活躍の場をどんどん広げ続けています。
国内でも、人気ファッションブランドのアベイジングエイプとのコラボレーションやミュージシャンのテイ・トーワさんのCDジャケットを飾るなど、日本のカルチャーシーンとも深いつながりを持って来ました。
グローバルでももちろんその人気は高く、今や現代アートを代表する一人となりました。

KAWS TOKYO FIRST開催概要

KAWS TOKYO FIRST will be the first large-scale exhibition of KAWS in Japan.
It showcases about 150 artworks to explore his visual approach that spans from commercial to fine art.
From the early works to the latest including paintings, sculptures, and products, this exhibition will trace his unique creative process and development, as well as the art historical significance. (Quote from the exhibition’s official site)
